Whole Setting Support

We provide regular, in-house services to organisations including schools, nurseries, health care, care settings and others, addressing the speech, language and communication needs of all children and empowering staff to provide the necessary support.

Support to reach every child, every day

Where support is required for an entire environment to support a range of children/young people, our experienced Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) can work closely with your team to embed communication-friendly practices, create an inclusive culture and improve outcomes more broadly. We work at universal, targeted and specialist levels to provide holistic setting support.

Why Whole Setting Support?

Whole Setting Support is ideal if you want to:

  • Support a number of children/young people.
  • Embed a SALT as part of your staff team.
  • Equip your staff to support communication needs and deliver a consistent service
  • Build sustainable practice so that you’re able to deliver support for SLCN even when our Speech and Language Therapists aren’t physically present.
  • Meet statutory obligations such as inclusion and SEND requirements.

How we can help

We can provide a complete solution to your specific speech and language therapy requirements, covering aspects including:

  • Providing hands on, in-house SALT work including assessments, interventions, reports, programmes and staff coaching.
  • Working closely with yout SENCO or other key leader to manage the SLCN needs in your setting at Universal, Targeted and Specialist Levels.
  • Training your staff to better understand and support SLCN. We support all job roles across education, health and social care organisations including teachers, teaching assistants, care staff, health practitioners and SENCOs.
  • Advising on strategies, approaches and high quality teaching to make your environment more inclusive (e.g. simplifying instructions, embedding visuals, teaching self-regulation).
  • Embedding techniques into everyday activities so staff can deliver support consistently.
  • Developing communication-friendly resources such as visual resources, training aids and communication materials.
  • Promoting a SLCN-supportive culture so that language and communication needs are considered in planning, curriculum, and care.

Supporting services

Assessments and whole class screening

  • Early intervention screenings for new intakes at both schools and nurseries
  • Whole class screenings for children up to 16 years old
  • In-depth assessments for individual children who have been identified as having SLCN

Once initial assessment screenings are complete, we can advise on and carry out next steps – this may vary from supporting school-led interventions to providing direct therapy.

Therapy & intervention

1:1 sessions and small groups can be delivered as part of Whole Setting Support. If initial assessment identifies children who need specialist help, we can arrange regular 1:1 or small group therapy/intervention.

We’ll work with you to develop a programme of support that comprehensively meets the needs of your children; this could include whole setting strategies and interventions or training your staff to carry out interventions to leading them ourselves. Whatever your specific requirements and priorities, we’ll build a solution that fits perfectly.

Working with SENCOs

Our SLTs work with SENCOs to jointly manage the SLCN of children in schools. We can provide support to identify and support children with SLCN with activity ranging from whole class screening to working with children who have already been identified as having communication difficulties.

We also work with SENCOs to look at the wider environment of the school for opportunities to support the development of communication skills for all children and ensure that staff are empowered to provide the necessary support.

We offer On-Demand, Live and Bespoke Training to:

  • Ensure your staff meet the necessary Ofsted standards
  • Help your staff identify difficulties in children
  • Teach staff strategies to develop communication skills in children (as teaching is predominantly delivered via verbal communication, introducing these strategies helps improve general academic attainment and allows children to understand and express more complex ideas)
