Sarah Beckett
Speech and Language Therapist
About Sarah...
Sarah has been a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist since qualifying with a BSc Hons in Psychology and Speech Pathology from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2011. Her journey into SALT was fuelled by an interest in child development, as well as her experience working as a support worker for young adults with learning disabilities (from which there are many fond memories!)
With over ten years of experience in the NHS, Sarah has worked as a SALT across a variety of settings including children’s centres, nurseries, schools, clinics, and the pre-school complex needs team. In 2022, she joined the SpeechWise team, where she now works across mainstream schools in Manchester as well as developing videos for the SpeechWise Parent Hub. Sarah also provides supervision to fellow team members who work within the same Academy Trusts, who constantly inspire her with their commitment and innovation.
Sarah strives to develop strong collaborations and relationships with SENCOs and teaching staff which she feels is really important to getting the most out of a school SALT service. Sarah has always enjoyed engaging with parents and encourages their involvement in SALT programmes from school, in order to maximise a child’s potential across both key environments. Sarah is passionate about supporting communication in all neurotypical and neurodivergent children, with a special interest in Early Years, Developmental Language Disorder, and Speech Sound disorders. She particularly finds it rewarding when less confident children begin to open up and interact within SALT sessions once they recognise they are in a safe and supportive environment.
Things to remember when working with young people with communication differences? A smile and a warm approach, a bit of fun and silliness, but most of all time and patience to get to know an individual and their strengths and interests all go a long way in their engagement and interaction with us!
Outside of work, Sarah enjoys reading, swimming, and spending time in nature. She can often be found having outdoor adventures with her young family!
She is registered with the HCPC and RCSLT and holds an Enhanced DBS check.
