About Rebecca...
Rebecca (or Becky as she is sometimes known) is a Speech and Language Therapist at Speechwise. Her journey into SALT is a bit of a family affair – her mum worked with a team of SALTs throughout her childhood, and her mum’s passion for their incredible work rubbed off on her. Rebecca graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2022 with an MSc in Speech and Language Therapy and joined Speechwise right after.
Rebecca loves that she gets to focus on the children and young people she works with as individuals, and can tailor her support to their unique needs. Her background as a primary school teaching assistant and care support worker showed her the gaps that often exist between therapy plans and their implementation. This experience shapes her approach today – she focuses on building strong relationships with carers and support staff, ensuring they’re confident in what they are being asked to do.
Rebecca enjoys working with all ages, but she has a particular interest in helping teenagers and young adults develop their communication and self-advocacy skills. Her approach is all about getting to know each person’s unique personality and interests, then incorporating these into their goals. It’s amazing what you can learn from them!
If there’s one thing she’s learned, it’s that the most effective communication support comes from really understanding the person you’re working with. It’s amazing to see the progress that happens when therapy aligns with someone’s interests and strengths.
Rebecca is registered with the HCPC, RCSLT and holds an Enhanced DBS check.
