Speech and Language Therapist

About Rachel...

Rachel is a Speech and Language Therapist who enjoys working with children, young people and their families across a wide range of settings. She started on this career path intending to work with brain-injured hospital patients, but quickly found that there are many fascinating and rewarding ways to work with speech, language and communication, and she is yet to find an area of SALT that she doesn’t enjoy.

Rachel qualified in 2007 from Manchester Metropolitan University with a  BSc in Speech Pathology and Therapy, and since then has held a variety of roles both in the NHS and within private practice, before joining the Speechwise team in 2025. She is particularly interested in neuro-diversity, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and non-verbal communication.

A firm believer in the importance of communication for all, Rachel is passionate about supporting individuals to develop their communication and interaction skills by any means available to them, being led by the individual’s goals, interests and motivation. She strives to build close working relationships with families, care givers and educational staff around the child to ultimately help them gain confidence and achieve positive outcomes. Her top tip for supporting young people: “don’t be afraid to show your weaknesses or to be a bit silly. Let them correct your mistakes and teach you something new. Everyone has strengths, and things to learn.”

Outside of work, Rachel loves to spend time travelling, listening to music and singing.

Rachel is registered with the HCPC, RCSLT and holds an Enhanced DBS check.
