About Laura...
Laura was inspired to follow a career in speech and language therapy after seeing its impact when she worked as a teaching assistant in a special school. She qualified from City University, London in 2010 with a PGDip in Speech and Language Therapy, starting her career in the early years team with the NHS before moving to a special school for 8 years, gaining experience of a wide range of speech, language and communication needs during this time.
In 2021, Laura joined SpeechWise and now works for them in a special school setting. She loves SpeechWise’s pragmatic ethos to make a real difference in the lives of the children and young people that they work with.
Laura is a firm believer in working closely with families, carers and professionals, to share knowledge, develop skills and implement strategies. She advocates a child-centred approach to help children and young people reach their full potential, celebrating strengths and working to overcome barriers to effective communication.
Laura’s top tip for supporting children with communication needs? Follow their lead, joining in with activities and interests that are important to them in order to develop interactions which are meaningful and fun.
Laura enjoys exploring the beautiful Peak District, in all weathers! She is looking forward to doing this soon with a new dog in tow.
Laura is registered with the HCPC, RCSLT and holds an Enhanced DBS check.
