Emily Watson
Speech & Language Therapist
About Emily...
Emily is a Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) and developed an interest in the profession after an inspiring lecture during her undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Studies. She qualified with an MSc in Speech and Language Therapy from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2021, and has been at SpeechWise ever since.
Emily’s background in nursery settings has honed her skills in providing tailored support to young children, however her experience now spans from early years to high school age, and she loves the diversity of her caseload. Emily particularly enjoys the variety and flexibility of her role, and can’t imagine working in one place all week ever again!
She is particularly drawn to the connections between speech, language, communication, and social-emotional well-being. Her approach focuses on empowering children and young people to celebrate their unique qualities and thrive in their daily lives. As the leader of the Newly Qualified Therapist group at SpeechWise, Emily is also able to create a space for SALTs with less than 5 years of experience to support one another, overcome challenges and share good practice and research.
Outside of her professional life, Emily finds balance through yoga, long dog walks, and enjoying live music. Emily’s top tip to supporting communication is to pause, observe and calmly tune into the child’s needs and preferences. Patience and compassion is key!
Emily is registered with the HCPC and RCSLT and holds an Enhanced DBS check.
